- ZOMG, check it out. I figured out how to add widgets. I added one more my email list signup and another to show my books on goodreads. They’re right there!——>
- Removed the optional first name field from email list signup. It’s cleaner and people may not want to provide TWO personal details (their email being the first).
- Solicited a review for Arnesto Modesto. Trying to get more reviews for Black Friday (in three days) for my Bookbub promo.

Tiny progress > no progress
- Changed 1-2 fonts for both (Amazon and Draft2Digital) versions of the ebook of Arnesto Modesto. The rest looked okay as-is, which is why I didn’t have to change more.
- Added Tyrone Jackson cover to welcome email for emailing list, making it just a tiny bit more snazzy.
- Mentioned in email signup to check Spam and Promotions folder.
Email List Underway!
- Had a little trouble getting started, but after looking it up, was able to get my email list going. Even figured out how to put files on there for people to download.
- Added link to the Amazon version of Arnesto Modesto, which I will hopefully upload again today.
- Changed the time and date info at the start of all my chapters to use a Kindle-accepted font (Arial), which will hopefully make it look better.
- TODO:
- Check my fonts elsewhere in the book for both Amazon and D2D
- Add graphics to my email list signup
- Change where email list signup redirects (now it goes to my Twitter account with a whole TWO tweets from five months ago)
- Mention that my emails may go to Spam or Promotions folder

Starting an Email List
- Found out I was accepted by Bookbub! But only internationally. Still, we’ll see if my $160 was well-spent.
- Spent part of yesterday updating Arnesto Modesto to include links for my other works on Amazon.
- Found a post office near(ish) me so I could buy a PO Box… so I could create a MailChimp account… so I can create an email list… so I can create a book funnel… so I give stuff away… so that I can hopefully get people to read my stuff! After a flu shot and a workout, too tired to get it going today, though. Tomorrow!
Day 7
- Spent some time trying to get fonts embedded. Watched a video by Derek Murphy about how to do it in Sigil, but Sigil only saves epubs. Tried using Calibre to convert .epub to .mobi, but no luck; the font I added still wasn’t there.
- Did, however, learn that by indented by TimeAndLocation style for Arnesto, D2D would finally recognize a blank line before and after. It looked like this: (never mind, can’t show you because WordPress *forces* a blank line to appear). Suffice it to say, it looked awful, but now it looks good again. This allowed me to:
- Republish Tyrone Jackson on D2D. I can almost submit to BookBub, but still have to wait for D2D to republish Tyrone some places.
Enjoy your weekend, everyone (lol, like anyone’s reading this)! Don’t forget to get your shiny Cyndaquil tomorrow in Pokemon Go’s Community Day.
Day 6
- Spent hours trying to figure out how to get embedded fonts to actually show up in an ebook (on Amazon, but Draft2Digital seems to have the same problem). I’m embedding fonts in Word properly, and they look great in the paperback version of Arnesto Modesto, but can’t get them to stick otherwise. Posted in FB group, but starting to think it can’t be done.
- Published my other works to Draft2Digital (6 total). That includes Arnesto Modesto, for purposes of applying to BookBub (they like books that are for sale on many sites). Since Maltzie has a bunch of blank lines and these disappear in D2D for some reason, had to go in and replace them with not 1, but 2 soft-enters. Now there’s a big gap (and the next paragraph after isn’t indented at all, but since that’s how a lot of books work anyway), I’ll deal.
- Republished Arnesto Modesto on Amazon, updating the Other Works By and Coming Soon sections to match everything released since.
Day 5
- STILL had troubles with Tyrone’s cover. The “fix”? Lowered the backboard in my original cover in Word, then when it converted to .pdf, it appeared where I wanted it. If it works…
- Also had to fix the cover due to a slim line of white. That’s the second time I fell for that. Just had to stretch the background image down a couple pixels.
- Ugh, forgot Table of Contents. Added that. Unfortunately, it included the Title and the Contents themselves. Highlighted the text for those, set to Style “Normal,” and then made them look like Heading 1 without actually being Heading 1. Fixed!
- PUBLISHED Tyrone Jackson! Available on Amazon for $0.99. Hooray!
Day 4 – 11/6/18
- Read aloud 9 more chapters of Tyrone Jackson
- Saw that the backboard on the cover wasn’t aligned, though it looks fine in Word. Resaved the .pdf, still bad. Edited the .pdf in Word, fixed. Also caught the little dude in the lower left was somehow derezzed, so reimported him, making him much higher resolution.

Before (left) and after. Not much difference, and I might be better off removing the backboard and player altogether, but they crack me up, so they stay.
11/5/18 – Day 3
- Read outloud 9 chapters of Tyrone Jackson. Made a surprising number of minor edits. Maybe I’m actually getting better as a writer?
- Looked into how to get reviews. I thought Bookbub had a minimum, but they claim not to. Still, need to publish Arnesto Modesto on Draft2Digital to expand the number of places where people can buy Arnesto, leading to a slightly higher chance of getting accepted by Bookbub (though I assume the chance is still miniscule).
11/2/18 – Day 2
- Updated goodreads profile to show pic of me and not my first book
- Confirmed with girlfriend that I could use profile pic that she took
- Reuploaded Quincunx to Amazon after stupidly messing up score mentioned (?UIN is 3 by itself, but since the ?(Q) is on a triple-word-score, the play is worth 9, duh!
- Began formatting Tyrone Jackson
- BIG ITEM ALERT! Though concerned as to how the hell I was going to make the cover for this one, I made one of my best covers ever:

Looks simple, doesn’t it? It is, though it still me much longer than it should have. Getting the backboard to show up not all corrupt was an undertaking (hint: choose to save images without compression).
